Winbond - Expanding Its Reach
Five years ago, Winbond has embarked upon a strategy of expanding its core engineering expertise by acquiring key technologies through acquisitions. In 1998, Winbond acquired Silicon Valley-based Information Storage Devices, a market leader and global provider of voice solutions in silicon and provider of the industry's award winning line of ChipCorder® voice record and playback IC solutions. In 1999, Winbond expanded its technology reach again by acquiring Bright Micro Electronics (BMI) and the Thin Film Transistor (TFT) LCD division of Cirrus Logic®, based in Austin, Texas.
